StyX is a native Californian. He is a 3rd Generation Dixieland & Blue Grass musician. He plays a Rhythm & Blues (R&B) style of drumming and attributes his style and rhythm to his grass roots influence. His father Kenneth Clarke (posing with Gut Bucket) along with his Uncle Dave Marty (sitting on chair with Banjo) perform with the San Francisco "Red Garter Band." (picture taken in New Orleans) They have performed together for over 40 years across America and many parts of the world. StyX has played many jazz festivals and private venues with the "Red Garter Band" now known as the "Grandaddio's." They carry on the great tradition of Dixieland, Blue Grass, Jazz music. |

StyX somehow inherited his nickname as a small child. Partly because of his slender build and that he plays the drums. StyX played a standard drum set until FattKatt suggested he tried standing up. It was a little awkward at first and he soon grew to prefer it. |

StyX started working with FattKatt the later part of December of 1999. FattKatt gave him a call and offered him a job with his new band called, "FattKatt & The VonZippers." They quickly put together a program, shaved their mustaches and grew pompadours. The band members came from various backgrounds and experience with a mutual love for rockabilly music. They played a lot of local venues in Bakersfield until May of 2001 when they were hired by Buck Owens Crystal Palace. Since then they have had the opportunity of a life time and met many great musicians across the nation and the world who have played there. |
